What are the best pet barriers for my car or SUV?

Vehicle pet barriers come in many different shapes and sizes and you have to be careful when buying. For instance, buying a mesh pet barrier for your Jeep Grand Cherokee, Ford Edge, or Honda Pilot can be a disastrous choice. Buying the wrong pet barrier could easily make your situation into a living nightmare. Especially should your dog try to hop the barrier and either injure themselves or cause you to lose control of your vehicle. I have made a few recommendations below as to the best kinds of pet barriers for the size of your vehicle. Remember that though they can be pricey, it is worth having a safe barrier for both you and your pet.

Types of pet barriers:

Mesh: These barriers in general are made pretty poorly and I don't recommend them AT ALL. Stay away from these unless you have a small dog or drive a very small car! They are extremely flimsy and can actually be dangerous for your dog, should they get their nails/paws stuck in it.

FROM MY EXPERIENCE, THE BEST MESH BARRIER IS THIS ONE:

Nylon: These barriers are quite a step up from mesh and I actually recommend them as the best barriers for small SUVs (Honda CRV, Ford Edge/Escape, etc.) and sedans (Honda Civic and larger work best). Even large dogs like German Shepherds or Labrador Retrievers can be supported with these. They are made VERY well and are very strong.

Metal: These barriers are meant for large SUVs (Honda Pilot, Toyota Sequoia, etc.) or covered trucks. They are very powerful and are meant for supporting several dogs, but are unfortunately the most expensive barriers. I really recommend them if you drive a large SUV or have very large dogs (Newfoundlands, Mastiff, etc.).

Best of luck with your pet barrier shopping and remember to keep you and your pets safe out there on the road!
